What is Operation Cornerback?
Every three years, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires airports like Wilmington Airport (ILG) to conduct a Full-Scale Emergency Exercise (FSX). These exercises bring together all emergency response agencies to test plans, communication, and coordination in the event of an airport disaster.
This year’s exercise simulates a large commercial aircraft accident involving 60 casualties, offering a realistic Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) scenario to challenge and strengthen emergency response capabilities.
