Description of the workshop:
The workshop will examine the unique dialect of ASL that is Philly Sign. Deaf & HoH Philadelphians use a unique and colorful lexicon of signs. They share one of the strongest and most famous regional sign language “accents” in the united states. Locals use these common signs as part of their daily communication in formal & informal settings. IN order to build rapport with clients and facilitate effective and unambiguous communication, interpreters must be familiar with and competent in using Philly sign. Whether you are an interpreter, an ASL student, or a member of the Deaf community lets talk PHILLY SIGNS together and keep this dialect alive!
